I have been captivated by photography for as long as I can remember. I am a fine art photographer specializing in flowers, architecture and still-life.
I have created a multitude of effects with my flower photography, from the pure traditional look to the extreme avant-garde. I have learned to observe the light as it completely changes the colours, textures and tones of the flowers in the images. It becomes essential to take the time to study the flowers and capture all possible angles in order to get interesting and unique perspectives. It is often surprising to see which shots are the best.
Photographing architecture and architectural details makes my heart soar whether in colour or black and white. I have purposely sought out opportunities to discover the beauty of architecture in numerous locations including Peterborough, Toronto, Montreal, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Cuba. I am thrilled at the prospect at combining my love of floral photography and my love of architectural photography.
I have always loved antiques, older homes and items that remind me of my childhood. I have been taking pictures of vintage and antiques for years – building interiors, exteriors and décor. I do not shy away from rust and abandoned houses – finding beauty in authenticity.
Recently I have ventured into still-life photography. I have created stylized vintage scenes with a Victorian flair. The subjects all convey a charm, a warmth and a serenity of yesteryear. Therein lies a comfort that is both endearing and everlasting. Of course, my love of flowers is reflected in these scenes.
I learned on a film camera, but much prefer digital photography. I am well experienced with both Lightroom and Photoshop. Post-processing allows me to take my photography to the next level. I have taken courses in both photography and post-processing at Fleming College.
The Spark Photo Festival has been a source of inspiration and I look forward to exhibiting my latest works in Spark every year. I have participated since its inception and have served on the Spark Board of Directors. I am a member of two photography clubs and have served as a Director for the Peterborough Photographic Society.
I have also been honoured to judge a number of photography competitions including the Lakefield Horticultural Society, The Port Hope Fair, and The Ontario Horticultural Society.
I hope you enjoy my photos.
